Midnight Dunes is the story of Macey Burns, who has just been through a scandal that derailed her career as a television reporter. She comes to the seaside town of Lost Beach, Texas, looking for a change and ready to focus on her first passion—filmmaking. Macey’s new project is shooting commercials for the island’s tourism board, but her plans for a relaxing rebound are dashed when she realizes the cottage she’s renting belonged to the woman whose body was just found in the sand dunes. Together with Detective Owen Breda, Macey digs into the victim’s past, hoping to help solve the murder. But with every clue Macey uncovers, she attracts the attention of a vicious killer.

Readers of Flight may remember Owen from the last book, which also is set in Lost Beach. I have had Owen’s story in mind for a while now, and I’m excited to get to share it with you. Midnight Dunes is book three in the Texas Murder Files series. Each book focuses on a different lead couple, so each story can be read as a standalone.

Last Seen Alone is the story of Leigh Larson, an up-and-coming attorney who is a fierce advocate for victims of online abuse and revenge porn. When Leigh’s newest client goes missing under suspicious circumstances, homicide detective Brandon Reynolds tracks Leigh down, hoping she’ll be able to help him with the case. Leigh dives into the investigation and soon finds herself in the crosshairs of a vicious criminal bent on revenge.

Last Seen Alone takes place in my hometown of Austin, Texas, a colorful city that is growing and changing every day. Some of the scenes in the book are set in my favorite spots around town, which made writing this story a lot of fun.

Please drop me a note if you would like some signed bookmarks for your group or if you’d like to set up a virtual book chat. You can reach me at laura@lauragriffin.com.

Thanks again for choosing Last Seen Alone and happy reading!

Book Club Kit: Flight

Dear Reader,

Thank you for choosing Flight for your book club! Flight is the story of Miranda Rhoads, a former forensic photographer who moves to the seaside town of Lost Beach with plans to make her living as a wildlife photographer and leave crime scenes behind her. But her plans are upended one morning when she comes across a couple sleeping in a canoe, entwined in an embrace. Looking closer, she realizes the man and woman aren’t asleep—they’ve been murdered. Investigators converge on the scene, but Miranda is the one who spies several key clues, including an exotic feather, that the killer has left behind. Although Miranda is reluctant to get involved in the case, lead detective Joel Breda is determined to convince her to help. Joel is dealing with a string of chilling murders, and he needs Miranda’s CSI skills to help unravel the crimes before the killer strikes again.

I got my start as a newspaper reporter and always loved covering the crime stories. So when I started writing fiction, I was naturally drawn to suspense. I love interviewing cops and forensic experts to uncover those vivid details that really bring a story to life!

Flight takes place along the Texas Gulf Coast, where I have spent many summers. With its beautiful dunes, vast marshes, and crackling thunderstorms, the coastal setting provides a dramatic backdrop for a novel that is both a thriller and a love story. Flight is book two in the Texas Murder Files series, which kicked off with Hidden, a USA Today bestseller. Each book in the Texas Murder Files series features a different mystery and a different romantic couple, so each book can be read as a standalone. As with my other series, readers can pick up any book and dive right in.

I hope you will enjoy Flight! I love to engage with readers, so please let me know if you are interested in setting up a virtual event or if you’d like me to send you a batch of signed bookmarks for your group.

Happy reading!

Book Club Kit: Hidden

Greetings from Austin!

Thank you so much for selecting Hidden as your featured book. I feel truly honored that you have chosen to spend time with my story. Book clubs are special, and I treasure the friendships I’ve made over the years through books, wine, and lively conversation.

The inspiration for this book came when I interviewed a team of FBI cybercrime investigators for my New York Times bestselling novel Deep Dark, which touches on the dangers of online stalking. I was amazed to learn how someone can track people through their devices, and how stalking has become easier and easier with the explosion of online images. I started to wonder, is it even possible to drop off the radar anymore? We talk about online privacy all the time as though it’s a privilege, but what if privacy is a matter of life and death?

Ever since I made the leap from news writing to fiction, I’ve been wanting to write a novel about an investigative reporter who was up against some of the same challenges that I encountered—from panic-inducing deadlines and casual sexism to the ever-present fear of getting cut from shrinking newsroom staffs. So, I feel a special affinity for Bailey, and her character is somewhat autobiographical (except for the part where she falls in love with a cop on her beat).

I hope you will enjoy Hidden. I love to hear from readers, so please drop me a line if you would like to try to set up a Skype or Zoom chat with your group. And I would be happy to send you a batch of Hidden bookmarks for your next get-together. You can reach me at laura@lauragriffin.com.

Thank you again for selecting Hidden, and happy reading!
